Lux Medical Tourism — Founder-Level Build

Designed the business and built the platform — market positioning, revenue model, and phased international launch, backed by a 5-language, multi-region Next.js build.

Stack

Next.js 15PrismaPostgreSQLi18n

Problem

Lux Medical Tourism didn't start as a build brief — it started as a business that needed to exist. The gap was a platform connecting international patients (Ireland's CNS reimbursement scheme in particular) with treatment providers abroad, but there was no existing positioning, market sizing, or launch sequencing to build against.

Action

  • Worked at the founder level: defined market positioning, sized the opportunity, and designed the revenue model before writing any code.
  • Sequenced a phased launch — starting in Turkey, then expanding into India — so the platform and operational processes could be validated in one market before adding the complexity of a second.
  • Built the platform on Next.js 15, Prisma, and PostgreSQL, with full 5-language internationalization to serve patients across source markets.
  • Designed and built a CNS reimbursement eligibility wizard — a guided flow that helps Irish patients determine their eligibility for the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive reimbursement scheme before committing to treatment abroad, translating a genuinely confusing regulatory process into a straightforward set of questions.

Result

A platform where the business model and the engineering were designed together from day one — not a generic booking site retrofitted with medical tourism branding, but a build shaped around the specific regulatory and market realities (CNS reimbursement, phased country rollout) that determine whether the business actually works.
